5 Reasons Now Is the Time to Focus on Conscious Leadership

I think we can all agree that the post pandemic labor market has shifted, actually it would be better to say it is still shifting. This new level of work awareness is real and has left many employers scrambling to figure out how to attract and retain talent. One thing is certain, people want more from work than a paycheck. Work as a means to an end, with the end being just to pay the bills, is no longer enough.

Here are 5 things to consider to help your business successfully navigate this paradigm shift:

1. People want work that is purposeful. And conscious leaders put purpose first. Conscious leaders are clear on what their own purpose is and encourage their team members to work “on purpose” and in their purpose.

2. People want work to be a place where they grow, and conscious leaders are committed to continually learning and growing themselves and their teams personally and professionally.

3. People want to be seen and heard, for who they are, not what they do. They want connection with their leaders and peers. Conscious leaders model the way by being authentic, vulnerable and by practicing and encouraging conscious listening.

4. Conscious leaders know how to inspire creativity and innovation. They recognize the importance of honoring their own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy. They know how to listen to and honor intuition. And conscious leaders model the way for others to do the same.

5. The health of your business depends on it. More and more companies are recognizing the value of conscious leadership and building conscious cultures. Companies like Whole Foods, Patagonia, LinkedIn, Google, Aetna, Nike, Apple to name a few, all have programs that encourage conscious leadership. The world of work is waking up. Organizations that don’t take intentional steps to develop conscious leadership skills and cultures will find it harder and harder to retain and attract talent.

The world of work is changing at breakneck speed. This change can create huge opportunities for innovation and positive transformation for individuals, businesses and the world. Organizations can take advantage of this opportunity by being intentional about developing conscious leadership skills. Business leaders that are paying attention can hear the call for change. They can feel the inner calling to develop their own inner skills and see the imperative to do so for their businesses. The time is ripe for conscious business to emerge as the new normal, the new paradigm. The time is now.
